A lengthy investigation by federal authorities with the Drug Enforcement Agency has led to the arrest of 21 individuals in the Dallas area. The operation, called Operation Shut Down Corner, took place over the course of 15 months, focusing on violent drug gangs in the city. The DEA targeted the Hamilton Street Posse, a drug gang rumored to be highly efficient, violent and dangerous. The Texas gang was rumored to traffic and distribute several different types of illicit drugs and dangerous substances.

The forgotten neighborhood

The Hamilton Park neighborhood of Dallas was known as the forgotten neighborhood because of the violence and drug activity that took place there. In its statement about the operation and subsequent arrests, the DEA claims the agency wanted to address the drug problems that have troubled the area for years. It spent over a year investigating the operation, determining how it worked and who was involved.

The DEA took 20 people into custody, and one more is still wanted by authorities. They are facing a variety of drug-related criminal charges, including maintaining drug-involved premises, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, possession of firearms and other drug trafficking crimes. Investigators say many of those charged have previous convictions on their records for other drug-related crimes.

Fighting for the best possible outcome

Those charged with these crimes would be wise to take steps to protect their future interests as much as possible. Regardless of what one is up against, there are things one may be able to do that will allow him or her to fight for a more beneficial outcome to the case, such as a shorter prison sentence. When facing federal criminal charges, it is prudent to work with an experienced defense attorney at every step.
