Young Texas adult facing federal drug charges after accident

One 19-year-old from the Houston area is facing a serious legal situation after a minor accident. After the traffic accident occurred, Texas law enforcement found drugs in the driver’s vehicle. At the time, the driver explained to the police that he struck the car in front of him because he was sending a message on his phone. The search of his vehicle and the results of that search led to federal drug charges and the potential for serious criminal penalties. 

After the accident 

After law enforcement arrived at the scene of the accident, a trooper reported smelling marijuana. This led to a search of the vehicle, during which police reported finding marijuana, marijuana gummies and pills. The driver is now facing felony criminal charges that include possession of marijuana, second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. 

This individual is facing various penalties if convicted. He could spend extensive time behind bars, and he may find other non-criminal consequences affect his life as well. This could include loss of reputation, loss of educational opportunities and more.
